The Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championship which is usually referred to as 'The Irish Meet' is now the longest running National ballooning event in the world. The first event was held in 1971 at New Castle House in Ballymahon, Co Longford and was attended by a handful of balloons. The event was organised by Mike Alexander who was the first balloon pilot with the Dublin Ballooning Club.
The Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championship returns to New Castle House, Ballymahon to celebrate the 40th Event and will be held from 19th to 24th September with 40 balloons expected to attend.
